Vietnam, US cities enhance cooperation

(VNA)The central city of Da Nang and Pittsburgh city of the US’ Pennsylvania State have agreed to become sister cities and further boost cooperation.
A delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in the US, headed by Deputy Ambassador Nguyen Tien Minh, paid a two-day visit (May 28-29) to Pittsburgh to promote cooperation between the two cities.
Minh handed over a memo on cooperation between Da Nang and Pittsburgh to Pittsburgh City Council’s President Doug Shields and relayed a letter from Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Tran Van Minh to the Pittsburgh Mayor.

Statement of the 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the DPRK's nuclear test

Bearing in mind the need to maintain peace and stability in the region and the international non-proliferation regime, Ministers condemn the underground nuclear test conducted by the DPRK on May 25th, 2009, which constitutes a clear violation of the Six–Party agreements and the relevant UNSC resolutions and decisions.
Ministers strongly urge the DPRK not to conduct any further nuclear test, and comply fully with the UNSC resolutions and decisions.

ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting opens in Hanoi

VNA - The 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM 9) opened in the capital city of Hanoi on May 25.
The meeting drew the participation of the ASEAN General Secretary, Surin Pitsuwan, representatives from the EC and more than 400 delegates from 45 members of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that FMM 9 takes place at a time when the global financial crisis is bringing about great losses and plunging the world into a very difficult and unstable period.

Vietnam inquires into personnel management in US

Minister of Home Affairs Tran Van Tuan is leading a delegation to the US from May 11-15 to learn about personnel management.
In Washington, the delegation had a working session with senior officials of the Office of Personnel Management, where they heard about workforce planning, performance assessment, position management and descriptions, prohibited personnel practices and merit system principles relating to employees of federal agencies.

US to become Vietnam’s top investor

(VNA) The US will become Vietnam ’s “number one” investor in the next two years, said the President of the US-ASEAN Business Council Matthew P. Daley.
Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on May 13, Daley, who leads a top-level US business delegation during their three-day visit to Vietnam to seek out cooperation opportunities, said that although the global economy is facing many enormous challenges, US companies are still interested in cooperation and investment opportunities in Vietnam.

Vietnam adheres to human rights, says diplomat

VNA - For Vietnam, the people are both the ultimate objective and driving force of any social and economic development policy, and protecting and promoting human rights are always the Government’s consistent policy, said a senior diplomat.
Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh made this statement while presenting the nation’s report under the Universal Periodic Review of the UN Human Rights Council at a session in Geneva on May 8.

Ambassador gives Vietnam presentation in Washington
