VN officials and businessmen attending talks on US customs
Ha Noi, May 10 (VNA) -- Vietnamese officials and business representatives are attending talks on U.S. customs regulations, especially those dealing with the textile and garment trade, in Ha Noi from May 9-11.
The talks, jointly organized by the Vietnamese Trade Ministry and the U.S. Customs Department and Embassy, are intended to provide Viet Nam with technical assistance for its regional and international integration.
High on the agenda of the talks are U.S. legal regulations on textile and garment imports. These include customs procedures, quota and visa systems, and illicit transportation.
Similar talks will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 14 and 15 as part of efforts to boost commercial ties between the two countries.
Viet Nam's export turnover with the U.S. surged to USD 700 million last year from USD 204 million in 1996, one year after the two countries resumed commercial relations.
Viet Nam earned USD 60 million from the export of textiles and garments to the U.S. in 2000. This year the Textiles and Garments Corporation plans to export USD 200 million worth of goods to the U.S.--VNA
