Seminar on textiles and garment exports to the US
Ha Noi, August 7 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's entrepreneurs were provided with information on the U.S. demand for imported textiles and garment at an seminar themed "Viet Nam's successful export of textiles and garment to the U.S.", held in Ho Chi Minh City on Aug. 7.
Participants heard reports presented by representatives from the Sandler, Travis, and Rossenberg, P.A. (ST & R) law firm of the U.S. on issues relating to the impact of the U.S trade policy on Viet Nam's products, particularly textiles and garment, and the Asian countries' experiences in exporting textiles and garment to the U.S.
The U.S. payment mechanism; its trademark, copyright, and intellectual property laws; as well as the impact of the U.S. Customs Law on Asian manufacturers were also discussed at the seminar.
The seminar was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, U.S. law firm ST&R, Esquel and Tristate Company, and the Viet Nam Textiles and Garment Association. The seminar provided a good opportunity for Viet Nam's entrepreneurs to learn more about the U.S. legal regulations on the textile and garment trade, particulary its customs procedures, quota, and visa systems.
The U.S-Viet Nam two-way trade turnover reached USD 1.1 billion in 2000, a five-fold increase over 1994. Viet Nam's annual textiles and garment export turnover to the U.S. increased by 70 percent and is expected to reach between USD 1 and 1.5 billion in 2005.--VNA
