V. President welcomes Stockholm conference on U.S chemical war

Ha Noi, July 13 (VNA) -- Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh has expressed her desire that the Stockholm conference will help Americans recognise the heavy consequences of the U.S. war and the U.S. government acknowledge responsibility for their actions.

Her desire was written in a letter sent to a July 26-28 conference to discuss measures to solve consequences of the U.S. military's use of toxic chemicals during the U.S. war.

Mme Binh is Honorable President of the Viet Nam Red Cross - sponsored Agent Orange Victim Protection Fund and President of the Viet Nam Child Protection Fund.

In her letter, she writes that many people have died and many innocent children continue to be born with debilitating birth defects as a direct result of exposure to dioxins contained in chemicals sprayed by the U.S. military during the U.S. war.

"The Vietnamese State along with humanitarian and social organizations has taken actions to overcome the aftermath of the war. In addition, numerous private and non-governmental organizations as well as the governments and the Red Cross organisations of many countries have supported Viet Nam in this domain. However, Viet Nam needs more help from foreign friends, especially the U.S.".

"I'm delighted that the conference will be organized in Sweden - a peace and justice loving country that has always sympathised with the Vietnamese people and provided support to Viet Nam. I hope that the conference will receive assistance from the Swedish Government and people as well as from the governments and people from all over the world for the legitimate right of the Vietnamese people and the lamentable situation of the Vietnamese Agent Orange victims," concluded the letter.--Enditem
