Vietnamese associate prof. wins "Artisan Advocate Award"
New York, Feb. 5 (VNA) -- Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Van Huy, who is also Director of the Viet Nam Ethnology Museum and Chairman of the Ethnology Association, has been presented with the "Artisan Advocate Award" by the U.S. organisation, Aid to Artisans (ATA).
The Aid to Artisans held a ceremony in New York on Feb. 4 to confer the awards for the first time on a number of individuals who had contributed to renewing and maintaining handicraft occupations in the world.
Addressing the ceremony, ATA President Mrs. C.B. Smith said that the award was handed over to Associate Prof. Nguyen Van Huy in acknowledgement of his great achievements at the Viet Nam Ethnology Museum and his contributions to the diversity and promotion of better understanding of Viet Nam's various cultures.
Under a cooperation project with the U.S. Natural History Museum, Dr. Nguyen Van Huy will organise an exhibition entitled "Viet Nam: Human beings' journeys, spirit and soul" in New York in March this year.
On display will be exhibits, reflecting the Vietnamese people's daily life in all parts of the country, particularly the diversity of cultural life of 54 Vietnamese ethnic minorities.
The Aid to Artisans (ATA) was established in 1976 with the aim of helping artisans carry out programmes of designing, developing and marketing their products in international markets.
