Vietnam is the 33rd largest exporters to U.S.
Vietnam is currently among the leading exporters to the lucrative American market with its main export earners being textiles, seafood, footwear and woodwork, the Vietnamese Ministry of Trade said March 21.
Based on export figures in January this year, Vietnam is the 33rd largest exporter of the U.S., according to the ministry.
In January, Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. reached 537 million USD, up 42.1 per cent over last year’s same period, the ministry said.
Major exports
Textiles, seafood, footwear and woodwork are the country’s biggest export earners in the American market, the ministry said.
In January, Vietnam’s textile exports to the American market hit 227 million USD, making the country the seventh biggest textile exporter to the U.S. after China, Mexico, India, Hong Kong, Canada and Indonesia.
Currently, Vietnam’s textiles constitute about three per cent of the U.S. total textile import turnovers, the ministry said.
Seafood in January reached 72 million USD, only below Thailand, China and Canada. Despite the catfish and shrimp anti-dumping cases against Vietnamese exports, the country’s seafood still remains competitive in the U.S. with a 7.2 per cent hold of market shares.
Footwear takes a similar position to seafood in the American market although its export turnovers were only 55 million USD in January and its market shares at 3.5 per cent.
Vietnam is also among the top 10 woodwork exporters to the U.S. In January, woodwork exports hit 54 million USD, holding 1.5 per cent of the U.S. market shares. Although the figure only rose slightly from December last year, it was 170 per cent higher than last year’s same period.
