Support Sought For Agent Orange Victims’ Suit
WASHINGTON DC — Vietnamese Agent Orange victims have called on more support from the US public in their lawsuit against US chemical companies.
The call comes after a meeting in Washington DC on Sunday between two AO victims, Dang Hong Nhut and Ho Si Hai, and US social activists.
Nhut and Hai told the US audience about the suffering caused by AO and dioxin, sprayed by US troops during the war, and discussed the terrible consequences of toxic chemicals on the environment as well as humans. The two victims said AO also had an effect on the future children of both Vietnamese and US war veterans.
The meeting aroused sympathy from the audience, who heard about Nhut and Hai’s personal ordeals and saw images of AO child victims in Viet Nam. The two victims answered questions about the number of people affected by toxic chemicals in Viet Nam and the level of support victims had from governments and charitable organisations in and outside Viet Nam.
Many audience members donated money and pledged to support the AO victims in their lawsuit, which is awaiting trial in New York.
Vice President of the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims Nguyen Trong Nhan, who was at the meeting, called for further support from the progressive and peace-loving US public to bring justice to Vietnamese AO victims in their current legal struggle.
The two victims and Prof Nhan will continue their campaign in Washington DC over the next two days before leaving for meetings in North Carolina and other major US cities.
