Vietnam Sets Up Committee To Organize APEC Summit
Vietnam set up a committee Wednesday tasked with organizing the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) Summit this year.
The biggest international event ever to be hosted by Vietnam will be held from Nov. 12-19 in Hanoi.
Also Wednesday the Government Office launched an official website for APEC 2006 in both Vietnamese and English providing the latest information on the major event.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, who is the chairman of the committee, said Vietnam’s organization of the summit would contribute to enhancing its position in the region and world.
The summit will consist of around 100 events like the APEC Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministerial Meeting; the APEC Finance, Trade, Health, and Tourism Meetings; senior officials’ meetings; the APEC Youth Camp; and the APEC 2006 exhibition-cum-fair.
The committee has a secretariat and five sub-committees while Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen, Foreign Affairs Minister Nguyen Dy Nien, and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Le Cong Phung are all deputy chairmen.
