ASEM discuss combination of traditional and modern medicines
Ha Noi, Dec. 4 (VNA) -- About 200 medical experts from all the 13 member-countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) are participating in a Ha Noi international conference discussing the combined use of traditional and modern medicines in treating difficult diseases.
The Dec. 4-5 conference is being held in response to Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's initiative to combine traditional and modern medicines was raised at the second ASEM held in London in April 1998.
More than 30 reports delivered at the conference highlight new methods of combining traditional and modern medicines for treating burns, the heart and diseases of the elderly as well as cancers and drug addicts.
Viet Nam has applied electro- and hydro-acupuncture and used medicinal herbs in treating several diseases, including hemorrhoids and hypertension and in the rehabilitation of children suffering from Japanese meningitis and in patients with meningitis sequelae.
ASEM groups Austria, Britain, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan, Holland, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Sweden, and Viet Nam.--VNA
