VN, US hold annual labour dialogue
(VNA) A recent annual labour dialogue between Vietnam and the US has focused discussions on technical cooperation to improve labour relations.
The dialogue also discussed reforms in labour law and workers’ rights, as well as labour issues in the negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
The participants reviewed the outcomes of the first phase of a 2.5 million USD project to boost labour relations funded by the US . They agreed that the project’s second phase will focus on improving capacity of labour inspectors.
In addition to discussing amendments and supplements to the labour law, the two sides clarified their viewpoints on labour-related issues in TPP negotiation process.
The Vietnamese side informed about the progress of the “better work” project funded by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The project aims to help Vietnamese garment businesses improve their prestige and products’ quality.
The US side expressed its desire to finance the implementation of this project in Vietnam ’s northern provinces in the near future.
The Vietnamese delegation to the event was led by Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Minh Huan while the US delegation was headed by Sandra Polaski, Vice Assistant to the Department of Labour./.
