Vietnam's National Day Anniversary held in Washington, DC
The Vietnamese Embassy in the US held a ceremony in Washington on August 29 to celebrate the 68th National Day of Vietnam (September 2).
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong highlighted the strong development of Vietnam over the past 68 years. The country is now a dynamic market with nearly 90 million people who are determined to further comprehensive reforms and intenational integration.
The ambassador recalled that President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to US President Truman just several months after Vietnam won independence in 1945, expressing his wish to foster wide-ranging ties with the country.
It was realised by the establishment of the Vietnam-US comprehensive cooperative partnership in Washington on July 25, 2013 during President Truong Tan Sang’s US visit, he said.
He also stressed the need to implement agreements reached during the visit for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in each nation, the region and the world at large.
Acting Assistant to the US Secretary of State Scot Marciel expressed his belief in the development of an all-around partnership between the two nations in the years to come.
