Vietnam Embassy held the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army

VNA - The 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 25th anniversary of the All-People’s Defense Festive Day was held by the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States on December 17. 

 

Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh reminded that Vietnam’s military affiliation with the US already began in 1945 when the VPA had American partners from the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor of the today CIA. 

 

Vietnam and the US are intensifying cooperation in disaster relief aid, education and training, solving post-war consequences, and maintaining strategic dialogues and collaboration at regional forums. 

 

The two countries are also making preparations to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2015. 

 

Vinh affirmed that he will work to promote the relationship between the two countries in line with the comprehensive partnership launched in July, 2013 for the benefits of each country as well as peace, security, prosperity in the region and the world at large. 

 

David Sheer, the Assistant Secretary of Defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, reiterated the US’s commitment to working closely with Vietnam in addressing war consequences, including the search for US servicemen missing in action, bomb and mine clearance, and the treatment of Agent Orange pollution.
