1,200 workers sign contracts to work abroad in January
Ha Noi, Feb. 6 (VNA) -- As many as 1,188 workers got contracts to work abroad in January, according to the Department for Labour Management with Foreign Countries.
Five hundred and ninety will work in the Republic of Korea (RoK), 530 in Taiwan, and 68 in Japan.
As many as 383 people will engage in electronic, engineering, garment and textiles and dyeing industries, while 126 others will work as housemaids.
Viet Nam plans to send 50,000 work-hands to work abroad this year.
To achieve the target, besides Laos, Japan, RoK, Taiwan and Libya, new outlets should be found such as Russia, countries in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Africa, the U.S. and Northern America.
Further, a system of vocational training schools and centres for labour export will be established this year.
In 2000, the country sent nearly 31,500 workers abroad, a year-on-year increase of 44.3 percent.--VNA
