Vietnam-US ties gaining momentum day by day

(VNA) Since Vietnam and the US normalised their diplomatic ties on July 12, 1995, both countries, their leaders and their peoples have worked unceasingly to strengthen ties.

In reality, Vietnam and the US began to cooperate with each other even before they normalised relations, in conducting joint searches for US servicemen who went missing in action during the Vietnam War (POW/MIA).

Vietnam-US relations grow fast, says diplomat

(VNA) Vietnam-US ties are developing fast and effectively in all fields of economics, politics, trade, investment, science-technology, culture and education. Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Le Cong Phung made the remark in an interview granted to Washington-based Vietnamese reporters on the occasion of the 15 th anniversary of the normalisation of the two countries’ diplomatic relations (July 12). While assessing the bilateral ties over the past 15 years, Phụng said that these are special relations.

FM spokeswoman rejects US human trafficking report

(VNA) Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga on June 16 rejected the US Department of State’s comments on human trafficking situation in the country, saying they are politically purposeful.

Nga made the protest while answering reporters’ questions about Vietnam ’s reactions to the comments on human trafficking in the country stated in the 2010 Trafficking in Persons Report that was released by the US Department of State on June 14.

US servicemen’s remains repatriated

(VNA) A repatriation ceremony of remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at the Da Nang International Airport on June 22.

Representatives from the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel, US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Michalak and representatives from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command attended the function.

Vietnamese diplomats visit US aircraft carrier

(VNA) A delegation of diplomats from the Vietnam Embassy to the US on June 30 paid a visit to the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush docking in Norfolk Base, Virginia state.

The visit was part of activities to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Vietnam – US diplomatic relations.

The delegation, led by Deputy Chief of Mission Nguyen Tien Minh, was received and guided by Rear Admiral Michelle Howard, Commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Two, and Captain DeWolfe Miller, commanding officer.

US-VN relations very good for both countries, says senator

(VNA) The US-Vietnam relations in the past more than 15 years has been a long and complicated road but the last ten years has been very good for both countries, said Senator Jim Webb, Chairman of the East Asia and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee of US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

In an interview granted to Vietnam News Agency-Washington D.C. based reporter on the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, Senator Webb said: " Vietnam is playing a very strong role not only in ASEAN but also in East and Southeast Asia right now."

New progresses recorded in Vietnam-US relations

(VNA) New progresses have been made in the relationship between Vietnam and the US. Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan and US Senator James Webb shared the view at their meeting at a reception in HCM City on July 6.

The city’s mayor highlighted the US Senator’s contributions to enhancing the two countries’ diplomatic ties and boosting mutual understanding and healing the war’s wounds.

He took the occasion to thank the Senator for his assistance to Vietnamese nationals living in the US .

Vietnam esteems relations with US

(VNA) Vietnam attaches importance to its cooperation with the US and wishes to develop the relationship both bilaterally and multilaterally, said National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien.

Kien made the statement while receiving a US parliamentary delegation led by Senator Thomas Harkin, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labour and Pensions (CHELP), in Hanoi on July 7.

He acknowledged positive and effective developments in the relations between the two countries in general and between the two parliaments in particular.

Vietnam joins world trade week in US Kansas State

(VNA) Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Le Cong Phung joined diplomats from six ASEAN embassies in the US for the 34 th Annual World Trade Week in Wichita city of US Kansas State from May 19-21.

The World Trade Council of Wichita and the Wichita State University jointly organised the week with the aim of increasing mutual understanding between Wichita and the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) member countries.

The Business Association of Overseas Vietnamese (BAOOV) has set up its branch in the USA.

(VNA) Present at the launching ceremony in Washington DC on April 12 together with many overseas Vietnamese business people were Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc and CEOs of a number of top Vietnamese business groups who are accompanying Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in his trip to the US to attend the Nuclear Security Summit on April 12-13.

BAOOV President Pham Nhat Vuong said that the association decided to form a branch in the US to promote business opportunities in Vietnam to the Americans as well as the Vietnamese American business community.
