3.2 million tonnes of rice for export in 10 months
Ha Noi, Oct. 20 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's rice export is estimated to reach 3.2 million tonnes by the end of October this year.
In the first days of October, the whole country shipped abroad 150 tonnes of rice, bringing the total quantity of rice export in the year to 3.1 million tonnes.
Enterprises nationwide have to date purchased nearly 6.78 million tonnes of paddy, equal to 76.3 percent of that purchased in the same period last year.
Of that figure, the Northern Food Corporation bought more than 1.2 million tonnes and the Southern Food Corporation more than 3.6 million tonnes.
Viet Nam expects to obtain a record food output of 35.7 million tonnes this year, an increase of 1.4 million tonnes or 4.2 percent over the output of 1999, despite the severe natural calamities that have been ravaging the whole country.
