Cooperation with world community for child care and protection
Oct. 13 (VNA) -- Viet Nam gives high priority to child care and protection, affirmed a Vietnamese representative to the United Nations at the UN's Third Committee discussion on promoting and protecting the rights of children in New York.
The Vietnamese representative spoke of the Vietnamese Government's efforts to implement a policy for socio-economic development and political stability, which gives high priority to child care and protection.
Viet Nam signed two protocols, the one on protection of children in armed conflicts and the other on anti-child trafficking and abuse, in September this year.
Regarding the fight against the social evils threatening children, the Vietnamese representative pointed out that the Vietnamese Government advocated the strengthening of legal measures to investigate and punish criminals and brokers; boosting campaigns to mobilize all people in the fight against social vices; implementing programmes to help abused children; and participating in international and regional cooperation initiatives, especially within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Viet Nam calls on concerned countries, international and regional organizations to cooperate with Viet Nam to solve the problem completely.
