President Tran Duc Luong thanks Christina Noble
Ha Noi, Nov. 6 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong has formally thanked Christina Noble, a British citizen who founded the Christina Noble's Children Foundation (CNCF).
The President said Christina had helped hundreds of Vietnamese children and needy people overcome difficulties to integrate into the community or re-unite with their families.
"I commend her honourable work and hope that she will soon successfully realise more of her beautiful dreams," he said.
Since 1989, the CNCF has focused on supporting under-privileged children including orphans, the homeless and the disabled.
In co-operation with the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the CNCF has paid special attention to protecting poor girls from the dangers of rape, forced prostitution, sexual abuse and overwork.
In 1990 it built a centre for malnourished and disabled children in Ho Chi Minh City's District 3. In 1991, it founded the Light School to teach illiterate children from poor families.
The CNCF operates two shelters in the city: The Light Shelter, home to 20 boys aged between 7-16 and the Rose House, homes to 20 girls.
The organization has built and equipped several schools in the Mekong delta, a kindergarten in Bao Loc of Lam Dong central highlands province and a vocational training school in Gia Lai province.
Last year, Christina Noble was awarded an honourable medal from the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ho Chi Minh City Medal from the municipal People's Committee.
