German and Japan grant aid to Vietnam

* Germany Loans USD 11.7 million for Building A Dredger
The German Goverment will provide a preferential loan of USD 11.7 million to help build a dredger for Viet Nam's ports.
The loan was approved by the European Commission (EC) on Dec. 21.
The EC said that the loan, made as a development aid to Viet Nam's Nam's Waterway Dredging Company, confirmed with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) regulations governing export credit for ship building.
The dredger, to be built by a German yard, will replace dredgers at Hai Phong and Hon Gai, northern Viet Nam.
* Japan Helps Develop Infrastructure
The Japanese Government will grant non-refundable aid of USD 207,860 for the fiscal year 2000 to help Viet Nam build a primary school, upgrade a hospital and develop rural roads.
An agreement for the three projects has been signed by Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy in Ha Noi, Hitoshi Ozawa, and relevant Vietnamese agencies.
Aid of USD 55,000 has been provided to build the Lien Oa primary school in Dan Chu commune, Hoa An district, Cao Bang mountainous province.
The school, the biggest in the Bac Hoa An region of Cao Bang, was built in 1962 and has since deteriorated.
Another grant of USD 86,470 was presented on Dec. 21 to the Thieu Hung agricultural cooperation in Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province, for its canals and rural roads.
About 5,500 m of canal and 5,100 m of rural road will be built in the first six months of next year.
Thieu Hung is the first of Viet Nam's agricultural cooperative to receive Japan's aid to reinforce its canals and rural roads for development of agricultural production and improve local living conditions.--VNA
