Production and use of clean energy sources in Vietnam
Ha Noi, Dec. 8 (VNA) -- As well as other countries in the world, Viet Nam pays special attention to research, production and use of clean energy sources.
Viet Nam uses an estimated 1.5 million tonnes of oil equivalence in 2000 and discharges 113,700 tonnes of CO2 to the air, said Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen at an international workshop in Ha Noi on policies on environment and development of clean energy sources. Traffic exhaust accounts for about eight percent, affecting people's health and life, he added.
To have a fresh environment and develop clean energy sources in Viet Nam, the Prime Minister issued a Decision on the use of lead-free gasoline in the whole country as from July 1, 2001.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment has coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to carry out a pilot programme on the use of lead-free gasoline, reducing environmentally-polluting fuel. It has also cooperated with the Ministry of Industry and other research agencies to apply environmentally friendly technology and production.
The workshop was held in Ha Noi during the exhibition AUTOPETRO 2000 from Dec. 6-10 to introduce the development of automobile production and fuel and lubricant business, policies on investment in energy and use of clean energy sources in Viet Nam, the region and the world and policies on environmental protection.--VNA
