Symposium on VN's resistance wars & anti-war movement in Europe
Dec. 17 (VNA) -- A symposium titled "Resistance Wars of Viet Nam and Anti-war Movement in Northwestern Europe" was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from Dec. 15 and 16.
The symposium was held by the 21st Century History Association and the History Institute of Utrecht University.
Many professors and doctors in history and politics from the U.S., the U.K., France and northwest European countries attended the event.
Participants were presented with a report by Prof. Dr. Robert McMahon from the U.S. and a report by Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Cuong, Director of the Viet Nam History Institute on the theme of the seminar. Other reports were on the movements for Viet Nam in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway; the French colonialists and the Viet Nam war; French intellectuals after the Viet Nam war; the movement against the Viet Nam war in the U.K., Germany, and Italy; Dutch aid to Viet Nam in healthcare; and Viet Nam's generations of the 1960s and 1970s.
A number of films on Viet Nam during the war by Dutch film maker Joris Ivens were screened during the symposium.
Vietnamese Ambassador Dinh Hoang Thang attend the symposium. He praised the significance of the symposium and said that he hoped the participants would respsond to the Netherlands's appeal to continue supporting and assiting Viet Nam.--VNA
