Vietnam and China meet on borderline demarcation
Dec. 1 (VNA) -- An official declaration of the intention to establish a joint Viet Nam-China committee for borderline demarcation and the setting up of landmarks has been made in Beijing, China.
The declaration was made when the Joint Committee met for the first time in the Chinese capital from Nov. 19-Dec. 1.
The meeting was held to further implement the Viet Nam-China Land Border Treaty signed on Dec. 30, 1999.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by the Head of the Viet Nam-China Border Department under the Government Border Committee, Tran Viet Hung. The Chinese delegation was led by the Counsellor of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Law and Treaty Department, Ma Yaou.
The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere and the two delegations reached initial results after having discussed at length issues relating to border demarcation.
They agreed that a second meeting of the joint committee would be held in Viet Nam in February next year.
They signed the minutes of the meeting on Nov. 29.
Assistant to the Foreign Minister and head of the Chinese Government delegation to the negotiations on the Viet Nam-China territorial borders, Wang Yi, witnessed the signing ceremony. He also received members of the joint committee.
Viet Nam's Ambassador to China, Bui Hong Phuc, attended the reception.
