Vietnam and Russia boost fisheries cooperation
Ha Noi, Jan. 11 (VNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam received in Ha Noi on Jan. 11 I. P. Sinelnik, Chairman of the Fisheries Committee of the Russian Federation, currently on a visit to Viet Nam.
Mr. Cam described the visit as a contribution to boosting cooperation in fisheries between the two countries.
He highly valued Russia's strengh in research and exploitation of aquatic resources and personnel training, and expressed his hope that Russia would continue to help and cooperate with Viet Nam in fisheries. He said that it was necessary to improve the efficiency of cooperation between the two countries' fisheries enterprises in the future.
Mr. Sinelnik expressed his wish for Russia and Viet Nam to further boost cooperation and share experiences in fisheries development.
Earlier the same day, Mr. Sinelnik held talks with Fisheries Minister Ta Quang Ngoc.
The two sides agreed to boost commercial ties between the two sectors, to create cooperative opportunities and to cooperate in fishing in some sea areas. They exchanged experiences in management, science and technology.
Viet Nam praised Russia's effective help and cooperation in developing fisheries over the recent past.
Russia intended to develop aquaculture in the future and hoped to learn lessons from Viet Nam's aquaculture.
Viet Nam and Russia's cooperation in fisheries started in 1954. The two countries signed an agreement on fisheries cooperation on Dec. 27, 1978 and another agreement on June 16, 1994.--VNA
