Vietnam express sympathy to earthquake victims in India



Ha Noi, Jan. 30 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh today, Jan. 30, answered an AFP correspondent's question about the country's forms of assistance - relief, means of transtransport or expertise to India after the severe earthquake in the state of Gujarat.

Md Thanh said: "As close friends of the Indian people, we take extreme sympathy over the loss of human life and property caused by the recent earthquake. We sincerely hope that the Indian people would soon overcome the aftermath and normalize their lives."

"With its ability, the Vietnamese Government will soon offer urgent assitance to the Indian people," the spokeswoman said, adding that Viet Nam always stands side by side with the Indian friends.


Viet Nam is to give 2,000 tonnes of rice to India's earthquake victims.

The gift was announced by Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung to the Indian Ambassador in Ha Noi today, Jan. 30.

The donation aims to partially help earthquake victims in India's Gujarat State overcome the consequences of the most severe disaster that occured on Jan. 26.
