Cambodia's FM visit to boosts bilateral cooperation


Ha Noi, Feb. 5 (VNA) -- A visit to Viet Nam by Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong is intended to boost comprehensive bilateral cooperation between the two countries, said President Tran Duc Luong.

President Luong told visiting Cambodian Minister Hor Namhong in Ha Noi on Feb. 5 that Viet Nam had always attached importance to the time-honoured traditional friendship between the two countries. This was true of their past struggle for national independence and for their unceasing cooperation to promote the prosperity and happiness of each country in the present. He said that he hoped with a joint effort, the traditional neighbourly friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Cambodia would continue to develop in the interests of the two peoples, thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.

President Luong praised the great effort of the two countries in effectively boosting cooperation in economy, agriculture, industry, education and training, and their contributions to the common development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He asked Minister Hor Namhong to convey his thanks and best regards to King Norodom Sihanouk, his wife, and other Cambodian leaders.

Minister Hor Namhong briefed President Luong about the results of the fourth session of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Inter-governmental Commission for Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation held in Ha Noi on Feb. 5. He expressed the Cambodian Government and people's gratitude to the Vietnamese people for their valuable help in Cambodia's escape from genocide.

Minister Hor Namhong also expressed his hope for the further consolidation and development of the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He conveyed King Norodom Sihanouk's invitation to President Tran Duc Luong to visit Cambodia soon.--VNA
