New oil and gas fields discovered

Ha Noi, Feb. 9 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has discovered new oil and natural gas reverves off its southwestern coast through 16 exploration contracts jointly conducted by PetroVietnam and its foreign partners last year, says PetroVietnam Director General Nguyen Xuan Nham.

At Lot 15.1, an oil well called Su Tu Den (Black Lion) has been found with an estimated capacity of about 12,600 barrels a day, while five natural gas reserves have been discovered at the country's southwestern continential shelf, Nham disclosed.

In addition, the contractors have further determined two more gas fields, one with a reserve of 314 billion cubic feet, and the other, 113 billion cubic feet.

They have already examined Kim Long (Golden Dragon) fields with a reserve of 784 billion cubic feet. Unocal has also determined Nam Con Son gas deposit of more than 30 billion cu.m.

Dai Hung (Big Bear) and Rang Dong (Dawn) oil fields, which are being tapped by PetroVietnam, are believed to contain larger reserves, the Director General says, adding PetroVietnam is actively preparing for the tapping of Lan Tay-Lan Do, Hai Thach and Moc Tinh fields this year.--VNA
