Vietnam, China continues border demarcation process
The Vietnam-China Border Demarcation Joint Committee held its second meeting in Hanoi from February 15 to March 2 to further implement the Border Treaty signed by the two governments on December 30, 1999.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by the Government Border Committee's Vietnam-China Border Department head, Tran Viet Hung and the Chinese delegation by the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Law and Treaty Department counsellor, Ma Yaou.
The delegations exchanged in-depth views about nine documents relating to border demarcation. They reached agreement and signed five of the documents. They also reached consensus on the work schedule for the joint border demarcation groups as well as exchanging planned landmark maps, compared planned landmark sites and discussed the landmark signals to be used by officials and vehicles involved in the work.
They agreed to continue discussing the remaining issues at the joint committee's third meeting scheduled for May in China.
Vietnam's Deputy Foreign Minister and leader of the government's delegation to the Vietnam-China borders negotiations, Le Cong Phung, received members of the Vietnam-China Borderline Demarcation Joint Committee on March 1. He also witnessed the signing of the meeting's minutes.
Chairman of the Government Border Committee Tran Cong Truc and Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Qi Jianguo were present at the reception and the signing ceremony. (VNA)
