No suspected terrorist's accounts detected in Vietnam so far
Ha Noi, Oct. 17 (VNA) -- No clients among the 27 listed terrorist organisations and individuals being searched for have been detected in Viet Nam, deputy head of the International Cooperation Department of the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) Do Khac Hung told Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper on Oct. 16.
The SBV has requested commercial banks in Viet Nam to review their client records to identify accounts suspected lof belonging to terrorist organisations and individuals.
The official further said that SBV has so far received reports on the issue from 30 of the 60 commercial banks across the country. The remaining banks are expected to submit their reports on the issue in the next couple of days.
Commercial banks of Viet Nam have pledged to continue their investigation and promptly inform the SBV upon finding suspected signs, Hung told the paper. He added that the search for terrorists' assets cannot be completed overnight.
Once any of the blacklisted accounts is detected, the SBV will inform to the Foreign Ministry and other relevant agencies to freeze the asset, the official noted.
On the Vietnamese Government's position in the fight against terrorism, the official pointed to the fact that the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry has issued a statement strongly condemning terrorism and pledging to join action in combating terrorism in conformity with the spirit of the United Nations Charter. In implementing the UN Security Council's resolution, the United States Government has requested the Vietnamese Government to cooperate in hunting for and freezing assets of terrorist organisations and individuals.
He went on to say that as the US request conforms to morality and the spirit of the UN Security Council's resolution, the Vietnamese Government has made clear the viewpoint that it is willing to cooperate with the US in addressing the issue within its capacity.--VNA
