Vietnam welcomes 2.13 million foreign tourists in 11 months
Ha Noi, Dec. 2 (VNA) -- Viet Nam welcomed 2.13 million foreign tourists in the first 11 months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent, reports the Tourism Administration.
The number of foreign tourists travelling by air and sea in 11 months saw year-on-year increases of 17 percent and six percent, respectively.
In November, concerned groups in the tourism sector took part in an International Tourism Fair in Kunming, China, and the 19th meeting of the Working Groups on Tourism, held in Thailand under a cooperation framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
The sector also organized a seminar on the market for Japanese tourists and exchanged experiences with Cambodia on hotel management. In the same month, Viet Nam signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation with Brunei and a Viet Nam-European Commission (EC) financial agreement on a project to develop personnel training for the tourism sector.
In December, representatives of the tourism sector will attend the JATA Fair in Japan and advertise Viet Nam's tourist services in France, Thailand and Singapore. It will also collaborate with France's ADEM Group to devise environmental protection rules for Viet Nam's hotel system.
Viet Nam's tourism sector expects to welcome 2.2 million tourists this year, 700,000 more than last year's figure, and 10.6 million domestic tourists, a year-on-year increase of four percent over 2000.--VNA
