Vietnam will use Cam Ranh for national development
Ha Noi, May 3 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's foreign ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh today, May 3, said that Viet Nam will not cooperate with any country wishing to use Cam Ranh port for military purposes.
Asked by foreign correspondents about how Viet Nam will use Cam Ranh port, Thanh said "Viet Nam will tap Cam Ranh port's potential and advantages in the most effective way possible for national development and defence." A ceremony for the hand-over of facilities at Cam Ranh port was held on May 2. The ceremony was attended by Viet Nam's Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Van Rinh and representatives of the Foreign Ministry along with Russian Ambassador Andrey Tatarinov and Rear Admiral Alexander Ivliev. At the ceremony, both sides concluded the minutes of the hand-over.
