The third border markers between Vietnam and China

Ha Giang, July 26 (VNA) -- The border marker No. 261 on the borderline between Viet Nam and China was installed at a ceremony held at the Thanh Thuy national bordergate in Ha Giang province today, July 26.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung, Director of the Foreign Ministry's Border Commission and Head of the governmental-level delegation for negotiations on the Sino-Vietnamese border.

The Chinese delegation to the ceremony was headed by He Ming-sheng, deputy head of Yunnan province's foreign affairs office.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung said that after the successful installation of the first border markers at the Mong Cai-Tonghsiang and Lao Cai-Hokou border-gates, the two countries have made good preparations for planting the border marker at Thanh Thuy-Then Pao bordergate in Ha Giang province.

He also said the fixing of the two border markers on the borderline between the two countries was another important step forward in the process of settling land border issues, thus creating favourable conditions for marking the entire Viet Nam-China borderline.

"This will lay a solid foundation for the building of a friendly, stable and long-lasting borderline between Viet Nam and China, meeting the aspiration of the two peoples, and creating favourable conditions for beginning the borderline demarcation of the entire Viet Nam-China borderline in early September.

This will also contribute to boosting cooperation and exchanges between the two provinces in particular and between border localities of the two countries in general, and help bolster each country's national development in line with the guideline of 'friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive cooperation, durable stability and future-oriented thinking," he said.

The Vietnamese Deputy FM stressed that with great efforts made by the two sides, the planting of border markers along the entire borderline would be completed as planned and more than 1,500 border markers on the entire Viet Nam-China borderline would be planted over the next three years.

He Ming-sheng, head of the Chinese delegation to the ceremony, described the planting of border markers at Thanh Thuy bordergate in Ha Giang province and Then Pao bordergate in Yunnan province as further progress in demarcation and border marker planting. He also expressed his belief that with efforts from the two sides the land border demarcation and border marker planting would be fulfilled as planned.

After the ceremony, the Vietnamese and Chinese delegations exchanged visits to their bordergates.--Enditem
