US company to invest in Viet Nam's IT sector
Ha Noi, Oct. 29 (VNA) -- The U.S. International Data Group (IDG) plans to invest between 50 and 100 million USD in Viet Nam's information technology sector, in the next 10 years IDG President Patrick McGovern announced on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the first PC World review issue published in Viet Nam.
McGovern noted that the money may be channeled into Viet Nam through direct investment in trade activities and risk investment in software and IT products companies. The IDG also wants to cooperate with Vietnamese press organisations and publishers to turn out three or four more publications in different areas of the IT industry such as computer networks and telecom, IT strategies for bussiness executives and electronic products design.
Next year, the IDG will turn its representative office in Ho Chi Minh City into a 100 percent IDG-invested company. It will co-organise the first high-tech exhibition in Ha Noi next month and an exhibition-cum-workshop on IT in education and training in January of 2003. The group will also continue organising IT exhibitions in banking, education, and health care.
According to McGovern, Viet Nam's IT market is among highest fasted developing in Asia with a growth rate of 22 percent a year and his group firmly believed that it will succeed.
