Viet Nam pledges close cooperation in fighting terrorism

Ha Noi, Oct. 24 (VNA) -- Viet Nam renewed its anti-terrorism policy during the Interpol general assembly this week.

The annual assembly opened in Yaoundo, Cameroon, on Oct. 21 with police chiefs and law officials representing 171 Interpol member countries.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Le The Tiem, Deputy Minister of Public Security stressed the country's stand, that no terrorist force would be allowed to operate in the country's territory and that cooperation with other countries in detecting and apprehending terrorists would be strengthened.

The delegation proposed that law enforcement and extradition agreements be signed to create a framework for combating international crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, and money laundry.

Discussions during the four-day general assembly focussed on evaluation of terrorism evolution, closer cooperation between the United Nations and Interpol as well as plans to set up a new global communications system for faster and more effective information exchange among police agencies.

Viet Nam became a member of Interpol in 1991. The country's Interpol Office is located at 40 Hang Bai street in downtown Ha Noi.
