Viet Nam wants peaceful solution to Iraq issue

Ha Noi, Nov. 11 (VNA) -- Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh on Monday said that now as before Viet Nam wants the Iraq issue to be solved by peaceful means in line with the UN Charter and international laws.

"This must be based on the respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as non-use of force to interfere into Iraq's internal affairs," Thanh said.

The spokeswoman made the comment in response to a Japanese Akahata correspondent's query about Viet Nam's stance on Resolution 1441 on Iraq issued by the UN Security Council on Nov. 8.

"It is important that in the process of implementing the UN Security Council resolution, all parties concerned should take proper measures in the cooperative and constructive spirit to avert war, maintain peace and stability in the region and throughout the world," Thanh added.
