Vietnam's SARS outbreak containment praised
A US health official has appreciated Vietnam's experiences in containing the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak, saying that its lessons are necessary for all countries around the world.
Ms Julie C Gerberding, director of the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) made the comment at the end of her recent visit to Vietnam.
Ms Gerberding said she and her entourage had learned from Vietnam's valuable experiences in SARS control, especially its active measures such as early isolation of patients and round-the-clock care of anyone showing symptoms as well as those who had been in contact with SARS victims.
These experiences should be provided for other countries in order to cope with this killer disease when it returns in the future, according to the official.
She also said that, during her visit, she had met with numerous Vietnamese medical specialists and workers, who were directly engaged in the prevention of the SARS outbreak and the treatment of its patients. (VNA)
