Foreign tourists to Viet Nam increase

Ha Noi, May 4 (VNA) - The number of foreign tourists to Viet Nam in the first four months of this year reached 933,800, an annual increase of 7.6 percent, according to the Viet Nam Administration of Tourism (VAT).

In April, 219,000 foreign tourists visited the country, a year-on-year increase of 38.7 percent. The number of tourists from the Republic of Korea tripled, while those from the US increased 2.2 times, from France, 1.7 times, from Japan and Taiwan 1.5 times.

The VAT has organised many activities in order to attract more foreign tourists. It held seminars on building Viet Nam's tourism law in different regions with assistance of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV). To attract more visitors, it has also carried out a Mekong river tourism project.

The VAT will coordinate with the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany to organise a seminar on the preservation and management of world heritage sites; in planning and developing cultural-cum-bio-tourism in Viet Nam in Thua Thien-Hue this month.
