Overseas Vietnamese appeal to support for Agent Orange victims

Ha Noi, Aug. 9 (VNA) - Overseas Vietnamese have been called upon by the Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association (OVLA) to increase their actions in supporting the lawsuit filed by Vietnamese Agent Orange victims against US chemical firms.

In its appeal responding to the calls from the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and the Society for Agent Orange Victims, the OVLA urged overseas Vietnamese to pay attention to and take active measures to support the lawsuit as well as give more assistance to Vietnamese Agent Orange victims.

The appeal reuterated that the US army spread more than 80 million litres of toxic chemicals, mostly Agent Orange, comprising 400 kg dioxin, during ten years (1961-1971). The toxic chemicals killed a lot of people and left a dangerous legacy to the environment and people in Viet Nam, causing pain for many Vietnamese families in the past, present, and the future.

The Vietnamese Government has done its utmost to solve the aftermath of the chemical war. Nearly 300,000 victims have been provided with medical treatment, orthopedic surgery, education and vocational training, to better their living standards.

Additionally, victims also received support and assistance from other governments, international and non-governmental organisations, scientists and people all over the world.

The OVLA stressed that the lawsuit for compensation from 37 US chemical companies which provided toxic chemicals to the US army during the Viet Nam war is a legitimate aim and in accordance with moral principle and international laws, and is supported by many organisations and individuals.

The Association urged overseas Vietnamese, collectives and individuals, to send their support in the form of letters, signatures, material and spiritual assistance to the Viet Nam Society for Agent Orange Victims at the address:
