Vietnam holds counter-terrorism seminar

Vietnam has set up hotlines and shared intelligence with many countries worldwide in the fight against terrorism, according to an anti-terrorism seminar in Hanoi on Nov. 22.
The seminar, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with assistance from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, attracted representatives from a number of relevant ministries and agencies, and United Nations experts on international crimes and terrorism.

Vietnam has set up anti-terrorism hotlines with many countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Korea, said Mr. Tran Kim Tuyen, chief of the Anti-terrorism Department of the Security General Department under the Public Security Ministry.

The country has also cooperated bilaterally and multilaterally with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) community in the field of anti-terrorism, he added.

This, Mr. Tuyen said, has helped Vietnam access better information of intelligence organizations to guarantee and protect national security.

Vietnam has approved eight of the twelve international conventions on anti-terrorism and is considering approving the other conventions, stressed Mr. Dao Viet Trung, assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs
