US Officials Make Fact-finding Tour to Drought-hit Area

Gia Lai, Aug. 2 (VNA) - A delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) made a fact-finding tour to one of the areas hardest hit by droughts in the central highlands province of Gia Lai during their two-day tour to the province from August 1.

 

William Berger, Adviser for South/Southeast Asia of the USAID's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance; Nathan Sage, USAID Viet Nam Environment Program Manager; and Heather Variava, Economic Officer of the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, met with ethnic minority people in Yang Trung commune, Konchoro district, to inquire into their losses.

 

The officials also had working sessions with the local agriculture and rural development service. Vice Chairman of the Dac Lac People's Committee Le Viet Huong received the
US officials and briefed them on the damages caused by the drought to the province's economic growth and the local people's living standards.
