VTV Plans to Launch New Channels, Increase Air Time
HA NOI — Viet Nam Television (VTV) will increase its broadcasting time to 168.5 hours per day through its eight channels by 2010, with 80 per cent of the total broadcasting time devoted to its own programs, according to the VTV development plan for 2010.
Under the plan, approved by the Prime Minister this week, in addition to the VTV1, VTV2, VTV3, VTV4 (for overseas Vietnamese) and VTV5 (for ethnic minority languages with Vietnamese subtitle), VTV would launch three more channels. These would be VTV6 for sports, VTV 7 for youth and education, and VTV 8 for English language programs.
Viet Nam’s television channels would focus on local issues; ensure quality of programs, with channel broadcasting between 8-18 hours per day. VTV would also increase programs for its overseas services, meeting the demand for information to speed up regional and international integration.
The plan has also set a target of producing 100 per cent of TV programs using digital technology by 2010.
