American Airlines And Vietnam Airlines Code Share
American Airlines, the world’s largest carrier, and Vietnam Airlines have entered into a code sharing agreement for US-Vietnam services. The two carriers announced Friday that in the first phase, staring April 17, they would offer code share services from the US to Japan and Europe. Vietnam Airlines would place its “VN” designator code on American Airlines flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Paris and Frankfurt from the US, with the services continuing on to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by Vietnam Airlines.
Vietnam Airlines would also partner American on select domestic routes in the US.
In a later phase, American Airlines will place its “AA” designator code on Vietnam Airlines’ services from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, and Frankfurt.
The second phase would be announced later after receiving approval from aviation authorities in the two countries, Vietnam Airlines said.
Nguyen Xuan Hien, general director of Vietnam Airlines, said the tie-up would enhance Vietnam’s image in the international air transport industry.
Theo Panagiotoulias, managing director of American Airlines in the Asia-Pacific, saying Vietnam was one of the top destinations for air travel in Asia, forecast strong growth in travel between the US and Vietnam.
Vietnam Airlines flies to 37 cities across the world.
