US ambassador-at-large for international religious liberty John V. Hanford, who is visiting Vietnam, has confirmed that religious conditions have improved in the country, a local newswire reported.

Hanford met with Nguyen Thanh Tai, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, as he visited the Vietnamese metro Wednesday to study the religious situation here.

The VietnamNet online newspaper quoted him as saying during the meeting that conditions for the free practice of religion have improved in Vietnam.

Hanford said he would report exactly what he had witnessed to the US Houses after he returned.

Vice Chairman Tai affirmed the country’s policy of religious liberty, and said that the city tried its best to facilitate religious activities.

Tai said he hoped Vietnam and the US would continue their efforts to improve mutual understanding, and that the Mr Hanford’s visit would contribute to strengthen the two countries’ relations.
