Appointed Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong at the Baker & Mc Kenzie’s reception
Appointed Ambassador of Vietnam to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong expressed his strong belief in the bright future of the friendship and partnership between the US and Vietnam, committing his whole tenure to that future.
Speaking at a reception hosted by Baker & McKenzie law firm in Washington D.C on May 26, Cuong said he is looking forward to working with US friends and partners and seeking their support for a stronger and more mutually beneficial relationship between Vietnam and the US. The newly-appointed ambassador said the US-Vietnam relationship has been strongly improving in all spheres over the last few years. The political, security and defence ties are growing on a solid basis with regular senior level dialogues and exchanges. Bilateral cooperation in trade, science and technology, education and health is expanding. Vietnam and the US and Vietnam are also working closely on regional and international issues of mutual concerns, such as climate change, nuclear weapon non-proliferation and counter-terrorism. At the regional level, the two countries share strategic interests in consolidating the ASEAN and boosting its role in Asia-Pacific in the joint effort to shape regional architectures that help ensure peace, security and development in the Asia-Pacific, Mr. Cuong said. He added, there is desire on both the US and Vietnam to take the relationship to a new height and the two sides are exploring the best ways to achieve this aim for mutual benefits of the two countries, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region.
The event draw the participation of around 150 guests, including the representatives and officials from the US administration, Congress, business community and scholars, as well as representatives from ASEAN foreign missions in the US.
