Currently, the Embassy of Viet Nam in the United States has received a lot of complaints from many Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese-Americans about receiving calls from the number 202.861.0737 or hotlines of the Embassy (202.716.8666, 202.999.6938, 202.436.6889) or other numbers with Washington DC code (ex: 202.xxx.xxxx) claims to be a representative of the Embassy of Viet Nam and requests coordination in resolving cases in Viet Nam, then they request to provide Bank account and transfer money to Vietnamese police agencies, etc.
The number 202.861.0737 is the switchboard phone of the Embassy of Viet Nam in the US. However, the Embassy has never made such calls. Frauds used high technology to fake the above phone number and impersonate Embassy staff in order to defraud and appropriate the victims’ property.
The Embassy advises Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese-Americans to be vigilant and not provide personal information for such calls.
