6.1million jobs created in 1996-2000



Ha Noi, April 18 (VNA) -- Viet Nam generated 6.1 million jobs in the 1996-2000 period.

In 2000, unemployment rate among urban people stood at 6.44 percent, the rate of working hours in rural areas rose to 73.86 percent from 72.11 percent in 1996 and the rate of trained workers increased to 22 percent from 10 percent in 1996.

These achievements were attributable to the renovation policy which opened ways for more investment capital sources for job generation, and to programmes for providing direct support to workhands.

Vietnam's trade sector sees comprehensive development



Ha Noi, Apr. 15 (VNA) -- Viet Nam posted an average annual import-export turnover of USD 22.5 billion in the 1996-2000 period as compared to USD 7.5 billion in the 1991-1995 period.

The export proportion increased from 26.4 percent of the country's GDP in 1995 to 37.6 percent in 2000.

With per capita import-export turnover share of USD 180 a year, Viet Nam has escaped from the list of countries having underdeveloped trade.

The Ninth National Party Congress to open in April 19,2001



Ha Noi, April 15 (VNA) -- The Ninth National Party Congress will be held in Ha Noi from April 19-21, 2001.

The Congress will be attended by 1,170 delegates, of whom women delegates will account for nearly 12 percent.

Of the delegates, nearly nine percent are above 60 years of age; more than 57 percent, from 51 to 60 years of age; more than 31 percent, from 41 to 50 years of age; and nearly three percent from 31 to 40 years of age.

The Eighth National Party Congress in 7/1996


Ha Noi, April 15 (VNA) -- The Eighth National Party Congress was held in Ha Noi from June 28-July 1, 1996 in the presence of 1,196 delegates representing 2 million Party members nationwide.

The Congress welcomed more than 40 international delegations, including those from China, Laos and Cambodia.

The Seventh National Party Congress 6/1991



Ha Noi, April 15 (VNA) -- Delegates to the Seventh National Party Congress gathered at the Ba Dinh Conference Hall, Ha Noi, from June 24-27, 1991 to outline the fundamental orientation of the transitional period to socialism through a strategy of ensuring stability and socio-economic development to 2000.

The Congress was held at a time when the international and domestic situation was undergoing complicated changes.

Ha Noi, April 14 (VNA) -- The sixth National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam was a congress of inheritance and determination to carry out renovation.

The sixth Congress was held in Ha Noi from December
15-18, 1986 with the participation of 1,129 delegates representing nearly 1.9 million Party members nationwide and 32 international delegations.

Comrade Truong Chinh delivered the Party Central Committee's political report, affirming "the Party's resolve to renew its leadership in the spirit of revolution and science".

The Fifth National Party Congress in 3/1982



Ha Noi, April 14 (VNA) -- The fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam affirmed its resolve to continue carrying out the socialist revolution and build a socialist economy set at the fourth Congress.

The fifth Congress was held in Ha Noi from March 27-31, 1982 with the participation of 1,033 delegates representing more than 1.727 million Party members from 35,146 Party committees. Forty-seven international delegations attended the event.

Socio-economic achievements after 15 years of Doi moi



Ha Noi, April 13 (VNA) -- Fifteen years of carrying out national renovation has taken the country out of crisis and inflation and brought about significant achievements.

Dr. Tran Kim Dong of the General Statistics Office said that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2000 was 2.5 times as much as that of 1985 with an average annual growth rate of 6.3 percent in 1986-2000, 3.9 percent in 1986-1990 and almost 7.6 percent in the past decade.

Almost all key economic sectors obtained outstanding achievements in the past 15 years.

THE FOURTH NATIONAL PARTY CONGRESS: VIET NAM WORKERS' PARTY RENAMED COMMUNIST PARTY OF VIET NAM


Ha Noi, April 13 (VNA) -- The Fourth National Party Congress decided to rename the Viet Nam Workers' Party the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

The fourth Congress was held in Ha Noi from Dec. 14-20, 1976 at a time when the Vietnamese people overcame trials and won glorious victory. Viet Nam was reunified and the Viet Nam Revolution entered a new era that of independence and reunification on the way of carrying out the strategy of socialist revolution.
