Deputy PM to visit US for landmark air service deal

The United States and Vietnam will sign a landmark agreement this month that will allow direct passenger and cargo flights between two countries, during Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan's official visit to the US.

The Deputy Prime Minister begins his 11-day visit tomorrow following an agreement between the two governments, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Garment exports earn 3.37 billion USD

Ha Noi, Nov. 1 (VNA) - So far this year, Viet Nam has exported 3.37 billion USD worth of textiles and garments, a 38.3 percent increase over the same period last year.


According to the Ministry of Trade, the export value would have been higher if there had been no problems with exports to the US. The mismatch between the number of US-bound exports that were granted export licenses by the Vietnamese side and those registered by the US customs led to a temporarly halt in the granting of visas to some Vietnamese products.

Vietnamese Buddhists declare US resolution distorts situation



HA NOI - Viet Nam’s Buddhists have emphatically rejected the US House of Representatives resolution on religious freedom in Viet Nam, passed on November 19.

Speaking at a meeting at the Ba Da pagoda in Ha Noi last Saturday, a leading Buddhist Sangha official slammed the resolution as a "distortion of the real situation" in the country.

The National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam altogether rejects H.Res. 427 Resolution adopted on 19th November 2003 by the United States House of Representatives and the Resolution adopted on 20th November 2003 by the European Parliament on the so-called “situation of religious freedom in Vietnam”. These wrongful, negative resolutions do not serve the relations between the United States and the European Union on the one hand and Vietnam on the other.

U.S. navy ship arrives at Sai Gon port

HCM City (VNA) - A US navy ship, the USS Vandergrift (No. FFG 48), belonging to the Kitty Hawk aircraft-carrier group, docked in the Sai Gon port in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, beginning a visit to Viet Nam.

The ship comprises 186 crewmen and 15 officers with Lieutenant Colonel Richard Rogers as Commander. They laid a wreath at President Ho Chi Minh's monument in the centre of the city and were later feted by the leaders of the Vietnamese Navy Command and Military Zone 7.

Vietnamese Americans scientists successful in the U.S.

Ha Noi, Nov. 19 (VNA) - "American scientists of Vietnamese descent have made substantial successes in many socio-economic areas of the US."

That remark was made at a workshop in the US to review contributions by Americans of Asian origin in the sci-tech fields.
