Vietnam hosts APEC conference on industrial science & technology



Ha Noi, April 23 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's Science, Technology and Environment Ministry is organizing the 20th conference of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Industrial Science and Technology Working Group (ISTWG) in Ha Noi from April 23-26.

The conference, the first hosted by Viet Nam since it joined the APEC in 1998, was attended by scientists from APEC member countries, including the U.S., Japan, Canada, China, the Republic of Korea, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Brunei, and international scientists.

Politburo & Secretariat members of the CPV IX tenure



Ha Noi, April 22 (VNA) -- Nong Duc Manh was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee, ninth tenure, at its first plenary session.

The Central Committee elected 15 members of the Political Bureau, four secretaries to form a nine-member Secretariat which includes five Political Bureau members, and a nine-member Inspection Board headed by Mr Le Hong Anh.

Agreements on Visa Exemption between Vietnam and some countries


To enhance multi-faceted relations with other countries, at the same time to make favourable conditions for the travelling of their citizens, Vietnam has agreed with a lot of countries on visa exemption on the basis of mutual benefit for their citizens. So far, Vietnam has concluded agreements with some ountries on visa exemption. The main content of the agreements is as follows :

Atomic energy exhibition to open in Hanoi




Nhan Dan Newspaper April 21 - The Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and the National Centre for Material Information, Science and Technology are to jointly hold an exhibition on applying atomic energy for the purpose of peace in Hanoi from April 25-29.

This will be the first time Vietnamese visitors are able to learn about detailed technology models.

Vietnam to promote e-commerce



Commerce One and Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation are discussing a business deal to open up Vietnam's e-commerce market, the Commerce One Vietnam sales manager said on April 18 in Hanoi during an introduction of the 'Scalability Roadshow Asia 2001' programme.

The programme is organised by Microsoft, Intel, Unisys and other IT companies.

Vietnam IT Forum to be hosted in Silicon Valley



Vietnam IT Forum 2001 will be held on May 17 this year at Stanford University, Silicon Valley in the US. The forum will showcase Vietnam's potential for IT development and Vietnam-US co-operation in the industry.

The forum, co-hosted by Connect Vietnam Network, Stanford University and Sun Microsystems, will showcase Vietnam as an emerging market for IT and present an overview of its IT industry and the potential in many areas including software development, outsourcing, telecommunications, foreign direct investment and financing.

FM reafirms Vietnam's open - door foreign policy

Ha Noi, April 19 (VNA) -- A press conference on the socio-economic achievements in the past 10 years of national renovation and the socio-economic development strategy for 2001-2010 was held at the press centre of the Ninth National Party Congress in Ha Noi on April 19.

Fisheries sector in Vietnam's economy




Ha Noi, Apr. 18 (VNA) -- The fisheries sector netted nearly 500,000 tonnes of aquatic products in the first quarter of this year, earning USD 289 million or a 36 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Ministry of Fisheries.

Of the netting volume, the natural catch output was more than 328,000 tonnes and aquaculture output was almost 168,000 tonnes.
