Direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Tokyo since Nov. 1st 2000




Ha Noi, Nov. 2 (VNA) -- The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, in coordination with Japan Airlines, held a ceremony in the Japanese capital of Tokyo on Nov. 1 to inaugurate a direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Tokyo.

Under a code-sharing agreement between the two airlines, both airlines will operate non-stop flights at maximum capacity for the new route and they will conduct four flights a week.

American Express donation to historical site conservation



Ha Noi, Nov. 2 (VNA) -- American Express has pledged USD 50,000 for conservation of Bi Dinh (stele) pavilion in the Minh Mang tomb in the former imperial city of Hue.

The donation is an additional sum to the grant of USD 80,000 that American Express has made to restoration of the Minh Mang tomb three years ago.

Earlier in 1995, American Express gave USD 75,000 to a project on restoration of Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) in Ha Noi.

General Vo Nguyen Giap and foreign veterans



Ha Noi, Nov. 2 (VNA) -- General Vo Nguyen Giap has expressed sincere thanks to members of the Viet Nam Friendship Village International Committee (VFVIC) for their contributions to build friendship villages in Viet Nam.

Vietnam and UN draft resolution on the Korean Peninsula



Nov. 1 (VNA) -- Viet Nam underlines that the adoption of the draft resolution on "Peace, Security and Reunification on the Korean Peninsula" by the United Nations General Assembly is of special significance for the question of peace and security in North East Asia as well as the world over, said Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Chau, Permanent Representative to the UN.

3,1 million telephone subscribers in Vietnam


Ha Noi, Nov. 1 (VNA) -- Viet Nam now has nearly 3.1 million telephone subscribers and 90,000 Internet subscribers, according to the Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT).

As many as 2.4 million are regular telephone subscribers and the remainder use mobile phones.

The VNPT has so far this year installed 637,000 telephones, up 37,000 from the target for 2000. Of these, there were 340,000 pre-paid mobile phones.

Artifacts off the coast of Hoi An in auction in USA



Nov. 1 (VNA)-- A number of artifacts discovered off the coast of Viet Nam's Hoi An old town, a commercial hub in central Viet Nam in the 14th century, have been bought by museums in the US, the UK and Australia, and overseas Vietnamese in a recent auction in the United States.

Donation to victims in flood-stricken provinces of Mekong delta



Ha Noi, Nov. 1 (VNA) -- Intel, the world's largest chip maker, today, Nov. 1, announced a USD 150,000 donation to assist victims in flood-stricken provinces in the Mekong delta of Viet Nam.

The donation, which will be channeled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, will help provide the provision of two medical clinics, a school and 700 fishing boats and nets for victims in flooded areas.

10,000 businesses set up under new Enterprise Law



Ha Noi, Oct. 30 (VNA) -- The Water and Development Joint Stock Company in Ho Chi Minh City became the 10,000th business set up under the revised Enterprise Law on Oct. 10.
The company, with a registered capital of VND 15 billion (USD 1.07 million) will be involved in the exploitation, treatment and trade of safe water, civil engineering, water supply and drainage projects, forest and industrial tree planting projects.
