US Embassy responds to WHO appeal for equipment to fight avian flu in Viet Nam

Ha Noi, Feb. 3 (VNA) - The US Embassy is answering a World Health Organisation (WHO) general appeal for equipment and assistance to combat the Avian flu outbreak in Viet Nam, announced a press release issued on Tuesday by the US Embassy in Ha Noi.
The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States Agency for International Development's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance will contribute 10 manual sprayers to assist in decontaminating hospital rooms and equipment; 300 sets of Tyvek white coveralls with boots and hoods; 300 pairs of rubber outer and latex inner gloves; 300 pairs of Tyvek boot covers; and 5 scrub and tub decontamination sets. Tyvek is a special rubber plastic used to protect against contamination.
The equipment will be used to limit contamination in health care facilities and to protect Vietnamese workers culling poultry to combat the outbreak. The embassy expects the shipment will arrive within 2 days.
