US Trade Development Agency funds to Danang Airport terminal

Ha Noi, Dec. 15 (VNA) -- The Viet Nam Civil Aviation Administration (VCAA) and the US Trade Development Agency (TDA) Dec. 15, reached a USD 579,900 agreement to partially fund a feasibility study on the construction of a new passenger terminal at Da Nang International Airport.

The signing ceremony was held in Ha Noi with the participation of VCAA director general Nguyen Tien Sam and US Ambassador to Viet Nam Douglas Peterson.

Empowered by the VCAA, the Central Airport Complex also signed a consultative contract with Price-waterhouse Coopers Securities LLC of Los Angeles, Calif., to carry out the study, sources from the VCAA say.

The Da Nang airport is being built into an international airport in the central region in accordance with the Prime Minister's decision in 1990. This year, the number of foreign arrivals doubled last year.

One of three civilian airports in Viet Nam, Da Nang airport is the principled facility serving domestic and international traffic in the country's central region.

Its current terminal will not be able to meet air traffic that is expected to grow 22 percent annually for the next ten years. Construction of a new terminal, a new access road and other associated infrastructure will increase the airport's capacity to 4-5 million per year.--VNA
