US Vets Hand over MIA Information to Vietnam

A delegation of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) presented Vietnam Tuesday with information on 93 Vietnamese soldiers missing in action during the war.

remain_256.jpgPresident of the Veterans Association of Vietnam Dang Quan Thuy said he greatly valued the operations of the VVA over the past years, especially its Veterans Initiative Task Force (VITF) program.

The program aims to provide Vietnam with information on its soldiers still unaccounted for from the American war and solve the Missing-in-Action (MIA) issue on both sides of the fence.

Since 1994, the VVA has given information on over 9,000 Vietnamese soldiers killed during the war, helping Vietnam recover over 900 sets of MIAs remains.

Thuy said the Vietnamese Government had always considered MIAs a humanitarian issue and called for greater efforts from both sides to solve any outstanding problems and heal the wounds of war.

For his part, Chairman of the Veteran Initiative Task Force Committee Robert W. Maras, on a Vietnam visit, expressed thanks to the Government and people of Vietnam for their assistance in solving the US MIA issue.

"We will continue to ask our veterans and others in the US to come forward with information on missing Vietnamese," Maras said.
